Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University Act, 2016 was enacted for establishment of a unitary University for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj in the State of Karnataka. It is the first and only one of its kind in the country. The purpose of establishing the University is to realize Mahatma Gandhiji\u2019s vision of Gram Swaraj with impetus on teaching, research, training and extension leading to comprehensive and sustainable Rural Development through the institutions of Panchayat Raj.<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Apart from Academic activities, it is the University\u2019s endeavour to bring a transformation in the personality and outlook of the emergent youth, by instilling in them basic values of life, Nationalism and National pride. Towards achieving this, a conducive environment is being continuously and consistently generated and nurtured through various initiatives. In this pursuit a replica of Sabarmati Ashram has been established on the University\u2019s new campus. The Ashram has become a hallowed centre of inspiration to the University\u2019s fraternity and the entire community. Scores of people throng the Ashram from far and near to experience the serenity and solitude of this revered monument and are inspired by the Gandhian values and principles which are propagated through this centre. <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Swami Vivekananda, the only Sanyasi who represented our country\u2019s National, Social and Spiritual ethos and professed values to the entire human mankind is the other source of inspiration to the University in the process of Institution building.<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The influence of life and values of Swami Vivekananda the \u201cVeer Sanyasi\u201d of nineteenth century transcended national borders, caste, creed, colour, gender and occupations. National Leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Vinoba Bhave, Jamshedji Tata, K. Sheshadri Iyer, Jayachamarajendra Wodiyer, Bipin Chandra Pal, to name few prominent personalities were inspired by the life and thoughts of this Youth Icon. His international following was a spectrum of renowned personalities across different walks of life. John Henry Wright renowned professor of Harvard University, Famous Indologist Max Muller, American Clergyman John Henry Barrows, American Writer Mark Twain, American Business Magnate and Philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Margaret Noble (Sister Nivedita),\u00a0Sarah Bernhardt French Stage actress, Indonesian President Sukarno German Physicist Herman Ludwig, the list goes on.<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The University intends to establish \u201cVivekananda Centre for Youth\u201d \u2013 A Voice without form\u201d<\/span>through which it is envisioned to propagate the ideals and principles and values which Swamiji epitomised and provide the youth an opportunity to imbibe the much-needed values of Sustainability, self-reliance, Self-respect and respect to all elements of nature, Indian traditions and associated knowledge systems. <\/span><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Five acres of elevated space, surrounded by lush green indigenous and exotic flora and fauna in the heart of the University\u2019s campus, besides the Sabarmati Ashram has been earmarked for establishment of this centre. This artistic and creative edifice which will exude mystical ambience will be a \u201c CHAITYA STRUCTURE \u201d<\/span> ,a combination of built up and open spaces comprising of 8 vaults and 4 galleries which represent the four Yogas. It will showcase with technological backup involving AI, IoT etc, the life and works of Swami Vivekananda in a most effective manner.<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

An imposing and iconic statue of Swami Vivekananda harmonising the greenery and spirit will be erected in the serene settings of the campus. \nThe linkage of spaces comprising of Sabarmati Ashram with the above structures will create a spiritual Zone in the University and will aptly be named as \u201c Viveka Loka\u201d<\/span>\nThe above creations will inspire the University\u2019s fraternity especially the students and the community at large and ignite the spirit of human values of which Swami Vivekananda was a proponent .<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
